Meditation and Psychic Powers: Shaktipat, Supermind, Kundalini Kriyas, Siddhis, and Enlightenment

Filed under: Great New Age Tips — admin @ 6:33 am

From time immemorial it has been known that some people, Yogis, Gurus, Shamen, Priests, Saints, Paramahamsas, Buddhas, Christs, have evolved to a state of high energy.

These pure and good people, wanting benefit and happiness for all, without a trace of selfishness and competition have been known to have psychic powers.

Their search for energy and goodness has precipitated within them the next stage of human evolution.

For thousands of years they have been Good Doctors, Good Priests, founders of religion, Philosophic Geniuses, Advisors of Kings, Musical Geniuses, Poets, Makers of the Law.

For thousands of years these people, wielding amazing Siddhis or Psychic powers, have been recorded as healing of the sick, casting out mental sickness, coming in dreams, communicating through telepathy, the radiation of specialised energies, leaving the body, entering into the body of another, astral travel, telling the future, acting at a distance, raising Kundalini, Shaktipat, the ability to pass healing into amulets, temples, places of peace, pilgrimage sites, creating miracles, birds and beasts come to them in peace.

Doing all this they also pass on their energy in Shaktipat for the awakening of all good students.

The shaktipat, the radiation of psychic energies by the enlightened can awaken these abilities in all who come to them. This has been known and recorded in the Sacred literature for thousands of years.

Indeed, some sacred literature states that only by access to the energies of the Masters, can enlightenment be passed on.

The search for this next step in evolution comes from the enhancement, the increase, of energy.

As fire is spread from candle to candle. As the sacred word resonates in both he who gives and he who receives. As Grace dropeth as the gentle dew from Heaven, twice blessed..

So a preparation of he who receives, the student, the candle, by the removal of Negative Energy, Energy Blockages, a lack of Energy Blockages allows more Spiritual Energy to be absorbed and used to crystalise, complete, finalise, create the Spiritual Body of another Master, another transmitter of the Truth!

They say that Masters represents infinite power through a complete loss of the selfish ego - When the robe was touched no credit was claimed by the wearer, It was your faith which healed you! said the Master - and so the truism, It takes two to Tango, - the student must be purified and prepared by evolution and spiritual practice to accept the Force, the Energy transmitted by the Master.

All energy blockages stopping the flow of energy through the system and preventing the buildup of psychic power in the system must be removed.

Thus we learn and practice Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation, Samadhi, Samyama, the Kundalini Kriyas, Chinese Alchemical Taoism and the Micro and Macrocosmic Orbits, VITRIOL and The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, The Grounding of Negative Energies, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Raja Yoga and the Eighteen Classical Yogas of the Bhagavad Gita.

Thus the torch is passed on from Master to Student.

Another candle is lighted up!

And Masters have existed in every time period.

They exist Now!!

Like Everything Else 80’s, Leotards are Making a Comeback!

Filed under: Trappings — admin @ 8:46 am

Fashion, like many other things in history, seems to work in cycles. Bell bottoms came back, afros came back, and the shaggy 70’s look came back left and came back again. The cycle continues in dance wear, and it is apparent when you walk into any hip night club or concert: leotards are making a comeback!

The leotard originally peaked during the days of disco and Fonda in the 1970’s. Today, over 30 years later, the one-piece outfit is popping up in fashion magazines, in concerts, and in vintage boutiques. Leotards are making a comeback on the heels of other 70’s and 80’s apparel like leggings and skinny jeans, and the trend is seemingly being embraced by the masses.

The original leotard first appeared in 1859. Named after the creator, a French aerialist, Jules Leotard, it showed up first during a French flying trapeze performance. The first edition of the garment was a hand-knit jersey that covered him from wrist to ankles. In fact, it was more of a unitard than a true leotard. Stories abound about the revealing nature of the garment drawing as many people as the performance itself, which does not venture that far from the truth of today either.

From ballet artists, to showgirls, to lingerie models, leotards went on to become a part of pop culture through the 1960’s and 1970’s. However, as the late 80’s and 90’s passed, leotards were limited to formal ballet performances and rarely showed up in pop music or the night life of major markets once the hair band era moved on. That is all changing now as the first decade of the 21st century marches toward completion.

The one group who don’t have to be told that leotards are making a comeback is superheroes. Many a comic book hero is dressed in standard leotard and cape attire. In fact, it may be argued that Halloween and the affinity of young boys for super heroes is what kept the leotard industry alive through the last decade.

It is true, leotards are making a comeback. Nearly 20 years since hair bands and unitard costumes went the way of the dodo, the leotard look is coming back with performers, dancers, and clubbers alike. The new trend is finding its way into the pop culture consciousness by being simple, sexy, and vintage. Everything in history goes in cycles, including fashion, so it is no surprise the one piece clothing wonder is back. What’s next, moon boots and parachute pants? Stay tuned since the advancement of the leotard can be seen as an announcement that anything can come back as long as pop stars are willing to put them front and center.

So get used to leotards making a comeback. Whether you choose to participate in the vintage movement or not, it is coming. It has been in and been out and back in again since its 19th century trapeze beginnings, which means that leotards are more timeless than most anything in the fashion spectrum.

Making Money From Your Web Site

You’ve created a great site with lots of great content and you have chosen your web host. So… big question… what’s next? Unless you are especially altruistic (and if you search the web, you’ll be surprised to see just how many people are), you’ll probably want to make some money out of your efforts. But how do you turn this stream of dots on a screen into a revenue stream? Here are a few pragmatic tips that might help… basic steps that will get you started and (hopefully) start you thinking.

How will people find my site?

Before you can make money from your site, people have to visit it - it’s as simple as that. Your first job then is to get people to visit your site. It doesn’t matter whether you have the best site in the world, if people can’t find it you are never going to get any visitors. Getting your site known means using search engines, and to get you started, that means submitting to a few of the key engines, particularly Google.

Luckily, there are a number of free web sites that help people to submit sites to search engines. The one I use is Addme.com. This has a very simple interface which guides you through submitting to a number of engines including Subjex, Alexa, Scrub The Web, FAST Search AllTheWeb, LookSeek, Jayde, InfoTiger, NerdWorld, Aeiwi, Walhello, LifeTips, ExactSeek, and EntireWeb. Most importantly, Addme.com gets you into Google. You might want to supplement this with a registration to MSN and Yahoo! (outside Google two of the biggest players) although I have never found registration to the latter particularly easy. Take a look around on the Internet - you might see others submission sites that I don’t know about that will help you out with Yahoo! In fact there are thousands of search engines you need to submit to, but for now, until the ball starts rolling, this will do. Don’t make the mistake many people do – don’t hit as many registration sites as possible in order to increase your chances of a good placing. It doesn’t work like that – submitting to the same engine many times actually does the opposite. In fact, it could get you completely banned from a search engine. And don’t submit specific pages of your web site as an alternative – it won’t help. The search engines are smart enough to recognize the similarities between www.yoursite.com and www.yoursite.com/page1.html!

How will people even know my site exists?

OK – so search engines are going to direct people to your site, but that’s not the whole story. If you had a regular business, a ‘bricks and mortar’ business, you’d want to let as many people as possible know as quickly as possible that you have started operations, right? Why would an Internet business be any different? As soon as you are up and running, make sure you send out Press Releases. Fortunately, there are now countless Press Release sites on the Internet, most are free; some provide a much more expansive coverage for only a few dollars. Here are a few good ones: http://www.prweb.com http://businesswire.com http://www.prnewswire.com http://www.free-press-release.com http://www.free-press-release.com http://www.theopenpress.com http://www.prleap.com http://www.openpress.com http://www.pr.com http://openpr.com

Have a good look through these sites; many have articles on how to write a successful Press Release. A well written Press Release will significantly increase your chances of getting visitors to your site.

What about directories? Should I use them?

One of the other ways of getting people to your site is registering to directories. There is every possible type of directory on the Internet. They are comprised of lists of items related to a specific topic – travel directories, used car directories, etc. You will almost certainly find a directory to meet your needs. One good one is Craig’s List. This site gets hundreds of thousands of visitors a day and people who list their sites here can get up to 800 visitors a day immediately! Don’t stop there though. If you look around the Internet you can actually find services which, for a small fee, will find directories for you and place your details in them. Generally they are not too expensive.

Should I advertise?

Aside from press releases and directories, you can also pay for advertisements that link to your site. Of course that can be very expensive, but there are a number of cheap alternatives currently available. Particularly popular at the moment are ‘Pixel Ad’ sites. These sites allow you to buy small amounts of adverting that is stuck on a single page. The ‘father’ of these web sites was Alex Tew’s ‘MillionDollarHomepage’ but there are now scores… A search for ‘pixel ad’ in Google reveals the following: www.pixeladmall.com www.milliondollarspixel.com www.freepixeladvertising.com

The list goes on and on… and on… and on… and on… and… is likely to continue growing! How do I make my site make money? By now you should have a few people visiting your site, which is a good start. Without them you won’t have a chance of generating revenue! But how do you start making money now the visitors are coming? One of the problems with the Internet is that everyone wants, and (because of the history of the Internet - DOT COM Boom, etc.) to some extent expects to become at least a millionaire overnight. Very few people do this (the ‘MillionDollarHomePage’ mentioned above took 5 months to make Alex Tew his million - I doubt the other sites listed are even close) and you should start small. Think of making a dollar a day as a good start on the way to something better, rather that an outright disaster that makes you think about quitting! In my experience, if your objective is to make a living from a web site, there are ways and means of achieving this, no matter what the subject area of your site or your current circumstances.

A New Strategy to Meet the Needs of the Elderly

Filed under: Education Portal — admin @ 7:44 am

Geriatric Care Management:

Getting older isn’t what it used to be. There was a time when
senior members of the community lived amongst their extended
family, relying on their children or grandchildren for support.
But as the Baby Boomer generation pushes the population’s media
age higher and higher, and as each generation seems to move
farther and farther from its geographical roots, the act of
younger generations caring for their elderly relatives is
becoming less common. Nowadays, the elderly must find
alternative ways to receive the type of care they need, though
many seniors are reluctant to move into retirement homes or
assisted living facilities.

This demographic shift and the elderly’s general aversion to
retirement homes point to the need for something called
geriatric care management. Once the unpaid job of a relative,
neighbor, or community member with a heart of gold, this
emerging profession serves a growing population of seniors with
a blend of social work, psychology, gerontology and advocacy.
When younger family members are too distant or busy to help
their elders adapt to declining health or ability, someone has
to do the job. That person must have a case-by-case
understanding of what options are practical, what resources are
available, and how to connect clients with the services they
need. He or she must have the personality to invite confidence
and the resilience to be there for minor or major emergencies.

If you’re considering a career as a geriatric care manager
(GCM), you should be proficient in six areas:

* Assessing your client means evaluating his or her medical,
social and economic situation. Does this person show signs of
dementia? Is there a support network, and is it reliable? Is
home care an affordable option over a move to assisted living?
Many of the decisions facing your client’s family members will
be the basis of your assessment.

* Planning involves setting goals that are both optimal and
realistic for your client, and that will maximize available
resources. As a case manager working for a family, you must
respect your clients’ wishes and ideas.

* For implementation of these goals, be available and ready to
intervene, whether dealing with current crises or preventing
them from happening.

* Through coordination, you connect your client to any
appropriate services, such as medical care or home assistance
programs.

* Monitoring your client’s ongoing care means that you’re the
liaison between all members of the team you’ve assembled.

* Evaluation is similar to your first assessment, but as an
ongoing view from an insider’s perspective. Now that your client
is on track toward a specific goal, it’s your job to determine
his or her progress and whether those goals might need to change.

This can be a demanding workload, especially if you’re handling
anywhere from five to 30 simultaneous cases. But when you
consider that GCMs’ average hourly rate is $74, with some
established professionals charging up to $200 and billing in
15-minute increments, it’s easy to see the advantages of
entering this growing profession.

While there are no legal requirements for establishing a GCM
practice, at the minimum you should have an understanding of
gerontology, whether through previous professional background or
extensive self-study. You should also be familiar with the legal
and financial realities of the elderly, and know how to best
focus your motivational and conflict resolution techniques.
There are many ways to build your skill set, although a
comprehensive approach will save time and money.

Consider, for instance, the online certificate program in
Geriatric Care Management from Kaplan University’s School of
Continuing and Professional Studies, which is recommended for
health and human services professionals actively interested in
this evolving sector of the health care industry. During
Kaplan’s 12-month, non-credit program, you’ll work through seven
courses that should provide all the information you’ll need.

Introduction to Geriatric Care Management begins with a
professional overview of what this market demands and what
you’ll require to succeed in it.

Aging as a Reality approaches the science of gerontology Here
you’ll learn about age’s physical and mental effects on the
human system, along with medical intervention, cultural
perceptions and public policy.

Psychosocial Issues in Aging examines how elderly people handle
grief, isolation, family dynamics, sexuality, change and hope.

Balancing Age and Independence addresses how, as a GCM, you can
build the support systems that will allow seniors to continue
living on their own or to transition with comfort and dignity
into an assisted living situation.

Financial Considerations of the Elderly explores the world of
investments, pensions and retirement plans, the maze of Medicare
and other public assistance programs, and practical concerns
such as housing and long-term care.

Legal and Ethical Issues in Geriatric Care Management discusses
elder abuse or neglect, and end-of-life decisions. GCMs will
also learn about mandatory reporting laws in the states where
they intend to practice.

Successful Aging introduces health and wellness strategies,
empowerment, adjustment to change, and the positive trends among
an aging population in a youth-oriented culture.

Kaplan University, headquartered in Davenport, IA, operates 69
campuses in 16 states and is accredited by the Higher Learning
Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and
Schools. The GCM certificate program, launched in December 2004,
is the latest addition to Kaplan’s Health Care Pathways series.
You can participate from anywhere in the world with a personal
computer, email and web access, and the ability to handle MS
Word documents. During the recommended 8 to 12 hours of weekly
study time, online message board discussions will put you on
equal footing with your fellow students. Instructors can easily
monitor your progress through the coursework, and you’ll have
access to faculty members and academic advisers throughout the
program.

With the American population living longer and the elderly
requiring a more integrated approach to their care than ever
before, certificate programs like Kaplan University’s Geriatric
Care Management program play a large role in preparing the
workforce to handle this growing need. At the same time, it
empowers its graduates to jumpstart a great career while making
a big difference in the lives of elderly persons who can use a
helping hand.

DNA Evidence - History and Status

Filed under: Best Legal Resources — admin @ 7:32 am

When Gregor Mendel published his studies of inherited characteristics of pea plants in 1866, he probably didn’t know he was starting a sequence of events that would end in the 1987 conviction of someone in the United States based on DNA evidence. This article discusses the history and current status of the use of DNA evidence in the United States.

How DNA Evidence is Gathered and Used

DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a nucleic acid consisting of two chains of nucleotides bonded together in a double helix, and is responsible for determining the inherited characteristics of each person. Historically, DNA could only be extracted reliably from clean specimens of blood or other body fluids. Due to recent scientific developments, DNA evidence can be extracted and amplified from a variety of samples, including licked stamps, dental floss, used razors, hair, and even sweaty t-shirts.

The DNA evidence is taken back to the laboratory where the sample is cleaned and prepared. The DNA is cut into small, manageable pieces using enzymes, and then it is categorized by size using a process known as “gel electrophoresis.” We all share some 99.9% of our DNA, but there are specific regions in our DNA that differ. In certain areas, given sequences of the bases adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine repeat themselves. The sequences, known as variable number tandem repeats, or VNTRs, create a unique personal blueprint that can be used as DNA evidence.

The VNTRs are marked with a radioactive compound that aids in being able to make an x-ray image of the DNA sequence. These images, which are the DNA evidence ultimately presented in courts, can then be compared to the DNA sample collected from a suspect.

The DNA sample from the crime scene and the suspect are compared at a number of different VNTRs, exponentially increasing the probability that a match between the two specimens is not an error. Statistically an innocent person would be more likely to win the lottery than to be inaccurately convicted using DNA evidence, assuming that the proper number of sequences is analyzed.

Where DNA Evidence Stands Now

The first conviction made using DNA evidence occurred in Portland, Oregon in 1987. Juries seemed hesitant at first to accept DNA evidence as conclusive, perhaps because of the complicated process - which has been extensively simplified for this article - that lawyers and specialists had to explain to the jurors. The process in its infancy left much room for defense attorneys to insert doubt into the cases against their clients. However, as science continued to develop, DNA evidence and technology gained a foothold in the United States’ courts.

DNA evidence and associated technologies were thrust into the limelight when a man by the name of O.J. Simpson was accused of killing his ex-wife and her associate in 1995. DNA evidence also played a large role in the case of the disappearance of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey.

Just as DNA evidence has been used to convict people of crimes, innocent people wrongly accused have also been freed based on DNA evidence analyzed after the fact. Ten people have been freed from death row in the United States when DNA technology was finally made available to analyze their cases.

At the time of this writing, several states, prisons, and communities are developing programs to create DNA databases, especially from those considered dangerous felons or high risk criminals. The future of DNA evidence in the United States lies in the hands of legislatures, courts, and responsible DNA labs.

Advantages Of A Broadband DSL Internet Connection

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 7:30 am

Anyone who has switched from a dial-up modem to broadband DSL knows the advantages of DSL internet access. The differences between the two are truly astounding. When people begin surfing the internet using broadband DSL after struggling with a dial-up modem, they never want to go back to a slow and often unreliable dial-up connection.

Broadband DSL connection speeds vary, but the average DSL connection rate ranges on average between 128 kilobits per second all the way up to 1.54 megabits per second. Typical dial-up modems can’t even come close to reaching typical broadband DSL speeds.

The remarkable speed of broadband DSL has made internet use more convenient, and DSL has improved the quality of many existing online activities such as shopping, banking, downloading audio and video, and gaming. Besides a notable increase in connection speed and website navigation, with broadband DSL, internet users are always connected to the world wide web. DSL provides
valuable information and online activities that remain just a few keystrokes away.

Broadband DSL saves money as well as valuable time. Broadband DSL eliminates the need for additional phone lines. People using broadband DSL are able to talk on the phone while browsing the net, and all computers within a household can surf the web independently with the use of wireless routers.

Security is another plus for broadband DSL users. Broadband DSL subscribers use their own private telephone lines to make contact with their DSL service provider. Cables and lines are not shared by other internet subscribers, and therefore user access is private and very secure.

Broadband DSL is constantly improving as new technology is discovered and implemented. When considering the cost of broadband DSL versus the cost of dial-up, there is no comparison. The benefits of broadband DSL are immeasurable. Broadband DSL is truly the solution for businesses and consumers wanting quick and reliable internet connectivity.

THE ONE-PERSON 401(k) PLAN

Filed under: Finance Web — admin @ 6:52 am

THE ONE-PERSON 401(k) PLAN

Did you know that a firm as small as one-person can establish a
401(k)? This is not a new phenomenon. It just never made sense
under the old tax law. However, recent changes have made the
401(k) much more attractive for small employers.

How attractive? Consider a sole proprietor at age 50, with
Schedule C income of $40,000. Assume this business owner would
like to contribute as much as possible to a tax-deferred
retirement plan during 2005. By adopting a SEP IRA plan or a
Profit Sharing Plan, the owner may contribute a maximum of
$7,434. By adopting a Simple IRA plan, the owner may contribute
a maximum of $13,108. However, by adopting a 401(k) plan, the
owner may contribute up to $25,434 for 2005.

As you can see, the one-person 401(k) plan offers you, the small
business owner, the opportunity to make a much larger
contribution to your tax-deferred retirement plan. This strategy
even works well for small businesses with certain non-owner
employees. Since the contribution amount is entirely
discretionary each year this savings strategy is very flexible.
Furthermore, contributions are tax-deductible and grow
tax-deferred to make this savings strategy very effective.

Additional incentives found in the new tax relief act add to the
attractiveness of the one-person 401(k) plan. For example, the
new tax relief act permits you, the business owner, with the
ability to take a loan from your one-person 401(k) plan. Loans
are now available to shareholders, partners, and
sole-proprietors on a tax and penalty-free basis as long as the
loan amount does not exceed the lesser of 50 percent of the
account balance or $50,000.

Finally, there is no IRS Form 5500 filing expense associated
with the initial years of your one-person 401(k) plan. You may
not be required to file an IRS Form 5500 for your one-person
401(k) plan until the assets in your plan exceed $100,000 or a
non-owner employee qualifies for the plan. So, any initial
administrative expenses will be minimal.

The one-person 401(k) plan savings strategy is most suitable for
firms employing only owners (shareholders, partners, and
sole-proprietors) and their spouses. An experienced financial
advisor, an ERISA attorney, or a retirement plan administration
firm can analyze the suitability of this strategy for your firm.

Infrastructure By: Ann-Marie Fleming Feburary 2006

As Homeland Security efforts domestically and abroad continue to
fight the war against terrorism there continues to be a
significant need for innovative methods for detecting weapons
and explosives. Detection technology has many applications from
protecting our ports and borders, to airports and other mass
transit systems, to crime scenes and hostile military areas. It
is apparent that the Homeland Security industry as a whole is
here for the long run and areas such as detection technology
continues to be a growing market within this sector.

As described by Jack Mallon, Senior Managing Director of Mallon
Associates, an investment bank focused on the security industry,
“It is an event driven market and the events over the past month
or so including the most recent threat from Bin Laden will be a
key driver for this sector of the industry.”

“Threats posed to a country’s critical infrastructure are
constantly changing and can emerge quickly,” states William
Frain, Senior Vice President of L-3 Communications Security and
Detection Systems (NYSE: LLL). “Granted, much has been
accomplished to protect this infrastructure and prepare for the
worst, and L-3 Communications Security and Detection System has
participated in the strengthening of some of the world’s most
vulnerable targets by deploying its advanced security screening
technology. Although the risks vary for each transportation
mode, the fundamental elements in protecting our transportation
systems require the screening of people, baggage, containers,
and vehicles. L-3 is the leading provider of security screening
equipment that addresses these core requirements.”

As a result of the growing demand for effective detection
technology, new products are coming on the market at an ever
increasing pace. Paul Johnson, CEO of Sniffex, Inc. (OTC.PK:
SNFX), a developer of a lightweight handheld distance weapon and
explosives detection device explains, “Private industry
recognized the need and the market potential for new and more
effect tools for the fight against terror worldwide. Add to
that, Homeland Defense funding, not only in the US, but
worldwide for research and development, and you have the
potential for an impressive array of new tools.”

The most urgent national security threat confronting most
western nations, according to Dore Perler, CEO of Sense Holdings
Inc. (OTCBB: SEHO), a developer of integrated explosive
detection technologies, is the surreptitious introduction of
lethal substances into our social infrastructures. “These
substances include explosives, chemical warfare agents and
biological warfare agents, therefore Sense is working to address
these vulnerabilities with high-performance detector systems
based on our patented Micro Electro-Mechanical Sensor (MEMS)
detection technology. The inherent low-cost of MEMS-based
detector systems will permit large-scale worldwide deployment to
all security forces. We plan to complete our handheld MEMS
explosives detector demonstrator during the latter part of the
first-quarter of 2006,”states Perler.

Transit Security:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is still very
focused on aviation security over other transit areas such as
subways, railways, ships etc. According to Peter Harris, Vice
President for Security Strategy for Analogic Corporation
(NASDAQ: ALOG), a leading designer of security systems, “There
are two main reasons for TSA’s continued focus on security.
First of all, terrorists believe in sensationalism and drama to
convey their views. Accordingly, we have seen that airliners
filled with innocent passengers are a likely target and will
continue to be so. Secondly, from a technical standpoint, there
can be more damage inflicted on an airplane with a small amount
of explosives than possible on a cruise ship or a subway
station. Therefore, the industry, particularly the aviation
sector, still believes that the biggest threat we face today are
very small amounts of explosives hidden in checked bags or
carry-on items.”

Harris describes a security focus aimed at addressing the threat
of carrying small amounts of explosives as exceedingly difficult
to detect. “We have seen specific examples of people willing to
die going on board commercial aircraft.”

Part of the government’s focus is to be able to detect small
amounts of explosives being carried on board aircraft by
passengers.” Analogic is addressing this issue through the
development of a highly sophisticated system called COBRA. This
is an Explosives Detection System (EDS) that automatically
detects explosives and weapons and provides this information
real-time to the operator by way of a 3-D display. COBRA will be
deployed at our airport’s checkpoints and it represents a
revolutionary advancement over current conventional x-ray
systems that only take one view of a bag from a fixed angle.
Harris further describes the technology, “Because COBRA is a
small CT system, its x-ray source goes around the entire item
and the operator is provided with a 3-D display of the entire
contents of the bag with those threat items automatically
displayed.”

L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems is heavily
involved in transit security through a variety of technologies.
Frain describes, “As a leader in the development of advanced
screening technologies, L-3 has developed an array of
forward-thinking detection systems that set the industry
standard for accuracy, reliability, and operational efficiency.
For example L-3, in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology (MIT), is refining elemental differentiation into
a powerful threat detection technology known as Neutron
Resonance Radiography for screening containerized air cargo.

Additionally, L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems
is developing an advanced container security device ( ACSD) that
features advanced state-of-the-art sensors that will continually
screen the contents of sealed cargo containers for explosives
and biological, chemical, and nuclear threat substances.
According to Mr. Frain, ACSD has the ability to track the entire
sequence of a sealed cargo container’s journey, from the moment
it arrives at the point of departure to release at its final
destination. Furthermore, ACSD is designed to automatically
identify tampering at any point in the container’s passage, as
well as detect breaches wherever they occur: on the container’s
sides, roof, or bottom.

In terms of securing other mass transit systems such as subway,
bus and rail stations, TSA is feeling pressure to address these
needs. The London bombings were an indication of the potential
threats that exist in these areas. Robert Tarini, Chairman and
CEO of Technest Holdings (OTCBB: TCNH), a provider of advanced
remote sensor systems, chemical detectors, intelligent
surveillance and advanced 3D imaging technology solutions
describes, “Chemical and explosives detection technologies that
can be installed to cover large areas such as cargo ports,
transportation systems and sensitive federal facilities will
become a hot commodity. We are trying to solve problems that
nobody has yet to date been able to do and we have the brightest
minds in the United States working on it.”

“You are going to start seeing in 2006 pilot projects where the
TSA will be placing Analogic Cobras into rail stations, buses,
as well as critical infrastructure of the country such as water
treatment facilities, power plants, anything that terrorists can
get into and are important to protect,” explains Harris.

Sense Holdings anticipates that MEMS-based detector systems will
be the dominant detection technology of the future providing
security solutions to address the needs for protecting our
systems of transit. “MEMS combine all of the most desirable
characteristics of a detection system, such as small size,
lightweight, very low cost and a sensitivity level much greater
than that of a trained sniffing dog. Our cartridge-based
detector systems will allow very quick and low-cost field
updates as new detection capabilities are continuously expanded.
Beyond explosives, these capabilities will also encompass
chemical and biological warfare agents in one handheld
detector,” states Perler.

“Furthering the probability of threat detection for checkpoint
security, L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems will
be introducing an innovative advanced imaging portal using
millimeter-wave technology for non-intrusive screening at a much
higher throughput than existing trace detection portals.
Partnering with government, L-3 Security and Detection Systems
is currently involved in two separate pilot programs sponsored
by the TSA to strengthen security for rail and air cargo,”
explains Frain.

Distance Detection:

There are multiple applications for technology that can detect
weapons and explosives from a distance long enough to offer a
high degree of safety for those operating the device. There are
many areas that place our members of law enforcement and
military agencies at risk. Paul Johnson describes such risks,
“First, the “hot spot” of a crime scene or other suspect area is
the most dangerous. Police, government agents and military
personnel often have to try to clear these areas without any
clear indication of what they face before entering the area. Any
tool that can help detect a threat before entering that area can
save lives. Sniffex is unique in that it is able to detect the
existence of weapons or explosives from a distance. In many
cases an operator can “sweep” a “hot spot” and determine the
risk before any invasive action is taken. Distance detection
dramatically reduces the risks involved in clearing a dangerous
area.”

“As of today, being able to detect a potential threat from
explosives or chemical weapons from a safe standoff distance to
an area which is highly populated is still a big unfulfilled
need in the DOD/Homeland Security marketplaces. Technest is
meeting this challenge through our Automated Adaptive Chemical
Exploitation System (AACES), a remote sensor that can fill the
need in many applications,” describes Tarini.

Driving Forces:

Overall it appears that this segment of the Homeland Security
market continues to evolve and becomes reinforced as the world
continues its battle against the real threat of terrorism.
Mallon explains, “Among the various factors that have the
potential to invigorate weapons and explosives detection are the
Bin Laden threat, the 9-11 commission report of deficiencies in
the implementation of their recommendations and depending
congressional oversight in this area which I understand may have
negative reports forthcoming from congressional committees as to
the effectiveness and efficiency of the airport security process
under the TSA. Therefore I think that the stage is set for more
activity in this space. Overall, it looks like there may be a
second wave for this arena.”

According to Johnson, “There are some exciting advances in this
arena that will be announced in the next 12 months warranting a
hard look at the potential in this market segment. The
investments being made now by government and private industry
are tremendous and that will result in products that could
deliver very good returns, given the worldwide market demand.”
