Website design - the perfect home page

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 9:20 pm

Congratulations! By purchasing your own piece of cyberspace you have confirmed yourself as a serious internet marketer.

Before you delve into the joys of your cpanel it is time to sit down with a piece of paper and plan your online shop window.

What exactly is your site about? Who is your target visitor? What will they be looking for that you can supply? Write these fundamentals down at the top of the page.

If you were looking for your site, what would you do? It is likely you would start with a search engine such as Google or Yahoo so I suggest you do just that. Type your keywords in and do some research on your competition. What do you like about their site? What made you want to leave in a hurry? This is a valuable yet free education into what makes a successful website.

Some sites look like a parking place for ads. It can be very hard to find what the site can offer as any content is burried under advertising. First impressions are vital - one click of the back button and your visitor is gone for good. If all that fills your browser window is a large header graphic and some ads then would you bother scrolling down to see more? Worse still, imagine one of those ads offers just what you were looking for - you would click away without even remembering the rest of the site was there.

I’m all for adding income streams such as Adsense to your site but limit the advertising on your home page to some discreet links near the bottom of the page. If your website visitor has read down to the bottom of the page and not found what they were looking for then certainly offer them some alternatives but don’t hurry their departure.

It may seem pessamistic to think about your visitor leaving when they have only just found your site but don’t miss any opportunity to encourage them to return. Make sure you have a simple signup form on your home page and offer visitors something useful. This may be a newletter to keep them informed of your latest offers or an ecourse, for example. This is the only circumstance when a pop-up may be appropriate on your home page.

What is your target visitor looking for? If they are shopping around for the best price on something then they could probably care less ‘about me’. If you are offering a service or a business proposition however then this is a critical area for your consideration. You will want a welcoming head and shoulder photo of yourself with your name and contact details in plain view. If your visitor wants a good deal then your hottest offer will take this pride of place.

Is a picture worth a thousand words? If you are offering a graphic design service then by all means knock yourself out. If not then carefully consider how hard every image is working for you. Graphics are great for window dressing a site and making it more appealing. Graphics can also slow down your page’s load time. Have you ever given up when a page was too slow to show? Do you care that there may well have been a fantastic visual feast if you had waited longer?

Back to your piece of paper and work out where you want your visitor to go next. Try and keep the links from your main page at 5-10 only. There is such a thing as too much choice and too many options can give the impression that little of your site will offer what your visitor really wants. Would you spend time reading through lots of options when it is easier to click away and start again with another of the 8 billion sites competing for your attention? Not only are fewer links less confusing for your visitor but again less links mean a faster load time for your page. Work out the logical groups for your site’s information then link to these group menus from your home page.

What is the colour scheme for your site? Do you want something vibrant to inspire action? Are calming pastels that instill confidence closer to your goal? You will want to keep within a simple palette of colours thoroughout your site so it does not seem disjointed so consider your site livery carefully.

Does your shop window invite customers in off the street? Does it look like a classy establishment or a flea market? Keep your homepage clean, clear and simple and it will welcome website visitors into your site.

Laptop Screen Inverter

Filed under: Hardware & More — admin @ 11:39 am

The small piece of circuit board, which is usually located underneath the plastic shell of your laptop’s screen casing, is probably the cause of one of the most common problems related to screen failure and, more specifically, dimness, or darkness to the screen itself.

The main purpose of the inverter is basically to give power to the backlight. The way it works is simple, it takes power from the laptop itself by a small inverter lead that runs from the motherboard of the laptop, sometimes it is a direct lead on it’s own, other times this lead can be connected into the inverter through the LCD cable (the lead that runs from the motherboard to the back of the screen itself), giving the screen its visual display.

At one end of the inverter, usually the left end, the lead that gives it power is plugged into a small white socket and from the other end, usually the right side, the backlight lead from the screen is plugged into another white socket. The backlight is a very small, thin, long, very delicate light bulb that runs along the very bottom or sometimes the side of the screen.

The problems related to the inverter is dimness or darkness to the screen in most cases or flickering of the backlight. Sometimes it can stop the screen form working at all but not usually. A common fault with laptop screens is a dark or dim screen, generally it is assumed that it is the backlight that is at fault, sometimes this may be correct, however more often or not it is simply the inverter not working, or not giving the backlight the power it needs. The inverter is usually cheaper to replace than the backlight, as the backlight is very fragile and can be easily broken. On some occasions a repair of the inverter is possible, although usually labour charges on fixing the inverter can sometimes lead up to being more expensive than simply replacing it.

When it comes to purchasing an inverter most companies will require the part number which is usually printed on a bar code on the outside of the inverter but sometimes you may need to look carefully to find it. If your lucky then you may get away with just stating what your laptop make and model is, for example ‘I have an IBM Thinkpad T22 and I need an inverter’, we try our hardest to locate the inverter with just these details, however sometimes you will need to provide the part number; here is an example of a part number from the inverter for an IBM Thinkpad T22, (10L1402). This inverter is also compatible with the IBM T21, and T20 all three laptops as a whole are basically the same apart from the processor.

MySpace and the Lies We Tell Ourselves

Filed under: Security Portal — admin @ 11:22 am

One area that parents and children overlook when on the Internet is the fact that nothing put on the Internet ever leaves. That means that anything incriminating posted online can be later dug up and used against your child at work, in a divorce or by the government. In this article I will look at three fallacies that impact your child’s safety and future.

Fallacy 1

If I delete something, it is gone.

  • The delete key removes it from your eyes, however, it still resides on your computer’s hard drive.
  • The only way to remove it forever is to reformat the drive or wait until some other program writes over it on the hard drive.

This is true for everyone’s computer, including the MySpace hard drives and backup tapes.

Fallacy 2

If I remove my content from the web, no one can access it anymore.

  • Once information is placed on the Internet, anyone can copy it to their computer.
  • In addition, the place that stored the information still retains copies on their hard drive.

MySpace says they delete it off the hard drive when requested. My question: do they delete it off their backup copies and everyone’s hard drive that copied or downloaded something? I didn’t think so…

Fallacy 3

Nobody will want the stuff I put online.

  • Pedophiles/sex offenders collect images and stories.
  • Pornography sites seek out images and stories to put on their sites.
  • Attorneys use this information for litigation
  • Employers seeking to fire an employee will search the net and the employee computer for incriminating evidence.
  • Disgruntled employees will use past Internet use to incriminate other employees or employers.
  • Electronic conversations are used in court cases and government investigations.
  • Spouses use this information in divorce cases

Think about this: remembering your high school years, how would you feel if the things you did then were on the Internet in living color for anyone to find? Today, MySpace users post their real and fantasy lives online! Scary, very scary…

As you can see, the “here and now” is not the only issue parents need to worry about. It is the tomorrows we need to protect as well. Protect your children by becoming computer literate and getting educated about online dangers.

Digital Cameras: Do You Know Your Megapixels?

Filed under: Photographers Den — admin @ 9:07 am

Until recently, were you to ask someone if they knew how to operate a digital camera, they would react as though you had grown another head. A digital camera? Whoever heard of such a thing. Now, in less than 5 years, they’re the only kind of camera to buy. With digital photography there’s no need for endless rolls of film. You just focus, click, and presto, a digital image. Don’t like the picture you just took? That’s no problem, either. You can simply delete the image.

Now, with all this available technology, why should we ever worry about pictures again? Well, the plain truth of the matter is this, if you don’t have a computer, it’s still expensive and quite time consuming to download your pictures at the local Wal-mart (or Wal-greens), instruct the computer there to copy the pictures to a disk, and then pay for the actual printing. See, it’s at this point that most consumers realize it’s just downright easier to buy an old fashioned, film loaded, camera.

Let’s assume, however, that you do have a computer, and you do want to purchase a digital camera. What kind of camera do you need? Where do you begin to check out your options and see how they relate to your needs? Well, the first part of the process would be to visit an electronics store in your area. The stores that specialize in electronics will generally have a sales person on hand that can explain all the available features of a digital camera and help you decide what you need and what you can live without.

One of the big questions concerns the “megapixel” feature of the camera. The larger the megapixel number, the better the quality of the picture. You see, megapixel determines how the camera reads color combinations in order to produce the best photo possible. Now this might be a matter of great concern if you are a professional photographer, but to the everyday consumer, three or four mega pixel strength is all you need.

Next you’ll want to examine what types of subjects you will photograph and under what kind of conditions. Do you need a camera that makes pictures of moving objects? Are you making your pictures at night, or during daylight hours? Up close and personal, or over on the next block? All of these questions are valid and will affect the quality of the picture you get if not correctly addressed.

There is one final option that you might want to check: some of the digital cameras also do video. The cameras tape the audio and video of the moment as well, or better, than some of your larger video cameras, just not as expensively.

Last but not least, you need to understand your storage options, and determine how much storage space you need. Going to the family reunion, room for maybe 10 pictures will be enough; But now the class reunion, well you’re going to need room for at least 500 photos. Alright, that brings this topic to a close and moves us on to the subject of “memory stix”…….

Coffee: Is It Getting Too Complicated?

Filed under: Best Food — admin @ 5:40 pm

Plain coffee is fast becoming a thing of the past. It’s now quite simple to whip up a gourmet hot beverage for guest, family, or just for yourself. Nowadays there are a number of coffee clubs and circles in which coffee drinking has become somewhat of a social club. These social clubs meet in the community or on the Internet.

Where did the good old days go where you could get just a regular, good cup of coffee all across America.

It’s all because there is a big craze over coffee these days. People are almost worshipping the coffee bean now. People get a thrill out of ordering and buying special coffees from specialty stores. They really like grinding their own coffee beans. They like visiting places such as Costa Rica and bringing back their special blends. And “coffee tasting” seems to be about as popular as “wine tasting”.

They even have furniture and home interior designs with a coffee theme. This would make great gifts for the coffee buff.

Coffee got its beginnings around 900 A.D. where it was at first used as a stimulant. It was also at times used as a wine and a medicine. It doesn’t look like anything is much different today.

There are not many products such as coffee that have continued “as is” for hundreds of years. And yet people are still scrutinizing and getting creative with it today and probably will be for years to come.

What is also interesting is that coffee is second to oil in dollar volume as a world commodity.

Did you know that there is two times more caffeine in a pound of tea than in the same amount of roasted coffee? This may be good news for those of you who hate the taste of decaffeinated coffee however wait just one moment. A pound of tea will make about 160 cups whereas a pound of coffee will usually make about 40 cups. This means that a cup of tea has about 1/4th the caffeine of a cup of coffee.

The content of caffeine in coffee decreases as it is grown at higher altitudes. If you want less caffeine in your coffee, grow it higher. Gourmet coffees are typically grown at higher altitudes so they have less caffeine than their grocery store counterparts.

There are many different types of coffee beans and way too many to describe in this article. Here are just a few of them:

You have Latte, Espresso, Low-Fat, Organic, Cal, Decaf, Half-Decaf, Black Forest, Cappuccino, Cafe au Lait, Alpine which has brown sugar, Arabian (lightly spiced and without filter), Cafe con Miel (Spanish for coffee with honey), and Cafe de Olla (a sweet coffee made with chocolate).

And you really should attend a coffee tasting at least once. You will get to experience how making and brewing gourmet coffee is slowly becoming a form of art. What is fun about the coffee tasting is that you could get a chance to taste two dozen or more different blends. You may even leave to start your journey as a coffee connoisseur. Any way you look at it, the tasting experience will be fun if you like coffee.

Preksha Meditation-Kayotsarga

Filed under: Great New Age Tips — admin @ 4:44 pm

The first step of meditation is Kayotsarga, that is relaxation with self-awareness. Keep your body steady, relaxed and free from tension. Keep your spine and neck straight but without stiffness. Relax all the muscles of your body. Let your body become limp.

Practice steadiness of body at least for five minutes. Keep your body completely steady, as motionless as a statue. Do not allow the limbs of your body to move. No movement at all.

Kayotsarga has two implications–complete relaxation of the body and self-awareness. For achieving complete relaxation of the body, mentally divide it into several parts and concentrate your mind on each part of the body one by one, from feet to head. Allow your mind to spread in the whole part–allow it to undertake a trip in the whole part; use the technique of auto-suggestion to relax the whole part and experience the resulting relaxation. Experience that each and every muscle, each and every nerve has become relaxed. And in the same way attain, the relaxation of the whole body. Use deep concentration and remain completely alert. Practice Kayotsarga.

Detailed Instructions for Relaxation:

Starting with the big toe of your right foot, concentrate your mind on it. Allow your mind to spread throughout the big toe. Suggest to the muscles and nerves to relax. Relax….. Relax….. Relax…..Experience that they are relaxing. Experience that they have become relaxed. In the same way, attain relaxation of the other parts of the right limb–the other toes, sole, heel, ankle, upper part of the foot, calf-muscles, knee, thigh, upto the hip-joint. In the same way relax the left limb upto the hip-joint. Experience that the whole of the lower portion of the body has become completely relaxed.

Now achieve the relaxation of the middle portion of the body from the waist upto the neck. Concentrate your mind on each part one by one starting with the lower abdomen, relax the front, the back, the right side, the left side, the outside and the inside of your lower abdomen. Similarly relax the upper abdomen– the front, the back, the right side, the left side, the outside and the inside of your upper abdomen. Now through your navel enter the abdominal cavity and relax the large intestine, the small intestine, the kidneys, the spleen, the liver, the pancreas, the stomach and the diaphragm. Use autosuggestion and achieve relaxation. Then concentrate your mind on the chest and relax the entire rib-cage. Beginning with the lowest rib, relax each and every rib in turn. Relax the front ribs, the back ribs, the right ribs and the left ribs. Now enter the chest and relax the right lung, the left lung and the heart by auto-suggestion. (Those who have got any heart trouble should pause here for a few minutes and by auto-suggestion slow down the heart to remove stress.)

Now achieve the relaxation of the neck muscles in the front and in the back. Then concentrate your mind on both the hands and arms one by one; starting from the thumb, relax the fingers, the palm, the wrist, the lower arm, the elbow, the upper arm and the shoulder. Experience that the whole of the middle portion of your body has become completely relaxed.

Now achieve the relaxation of the upper portion of body from throat upto the head. Here we have come to a bit more difficult part of the exercise. So far you were relaxing large muscles which respond quickly to your suggestion. But now we have to relax a large number of small and tiny muscles which are difficult to relax. First unclench your teeth and unlock your jaws and let your tongue go limp. Keep your lips softly closed. Now relax all the facial muscles; beginning with the chin, relax the lips, the inner portion of the mouth including the teeth, the gums, the palate and the tongue; then relax the cheeks, the nose, the ears and the temples, both the eyes, the forehead and the scalp, through auto-suggestion. Experience that the whole of your upper portion of the body has become completely relaxed.

Again allow your mind to travel from the head upto the feet and from the feet upto the head; this time rather quickly and see that there is no tension anywhere in the body. Experience that the whole body from the feet upto the head has become completely relaxed. Maintain the posture of Kayotsarga throughout the meditation session. Try to keep your body completely steady and motionless.

Now practice inner silence at least for five minutes through relaxation of the vocal cords (voice box). Concentrate your mind on the voice box inside the throat and completely relax it. Observe complete inner silence. There should be no vibrations in the voice box.

Old Friend

Filed under: Publishing Stuff — admin @ 4:28 pm

ALONG our journey of life we meet different kinds of people. There are some who stays and there are some who leaves without a trace. When we are lucky enough and open to build relationship with others, we can have a lasting friendship with a few of them. It all depends on how one values the other.

Just recently, i have gotten a surprise from an old friend. It has been nearly four years without any contact or whatsoever with him. Am so glad to have an old buddy back. He’s been my best bud in college.

Our communication has come to a stop without any reason at all. Maybe we are just so tied up with life and don’t have enough time to talk and mind each other’s business. Not considering the distance as a factor for the sudden silence.

However, i guess there are friendships that lasts. That eventhough without a word, it has been an understatement that we both remain as we are.

Though it has been years, i can say that nothing has changed. He is still the same person i know. The ever truly, madly, deeply in love guy with our friend.

I salute him for having the courage to admit that he can’t live without her. I toast a cheer to him for the many sacrifices he has made just to keep their relationship going. I recalled him lamenting that nothings going right about them. But i had told him once that he has to make a decision as to whether he’ll let go or continue fighting and never give up.

I believe that what really makes a relationship work is each other’s dedication to stay together. When you are searching, you can never stop looking because there will always be someone better that will come along your way. That’s the importance of making a decision. You gotta put an end to your search and decide who’ll you spent life with.

I am proud of him for humbly acknowledging the fact that he can be restless without her. I know it took a lot of thinking for him. They have went through breakups. I know there has been times when he reached the point of saying that he had enough. But i am glad he hold on. You see, there are still together for years now.

He’s coming back is just at the right time. I think i need somebody from my past to remind me and assure that everything will be fine. I missed our talks and the feeling that somebody out there watches over me from afar.

Now i can tell him my stories. I can share my failures, depressions, and disappointments without feeling afraid he might not listen. I am confident he would love to hear my happy moments and victories.

Don’t know much what to say but it has made me realize that how nice it is to have friends from the past come to life again…

But I Hate the Gym! - Gym-Free Fitness (Part 1 of 2)

Filed under: Templates Resources — admin @ 4:22 pm

“I know I should exercise,” a good friend of mine was lamenting
to me late last week, “but I really hate going to gyms.” I have
to admit, my initial response to this was incredulity - even in
my much heavier days (when I had a BMI of 35, very little of
which was due to muscle!), I still loved the gym environment.
There’s something about being able to pit myself against
machines that really kicks in my stubborn streak. Something in
me clicks and I downright *refuse* to let the machines win. But
to be honest, she’s not the first person I’ve heard say this.

So I started asking around, and quickly found that my friend
wasn’t the only person who thought this way. Reasons for
avoiding the gym varied, but they seemed to fall into one of
four categories:

1. HYGIENE: To quote one person, “Having to sit where other
people have been sweating just grosses me out!”

2. EXPENSE: If you’re already struggling to make ends meet, the
yearly cost of a gym can feel totally unjustifiable 3.
INCONVENIENCE: The hassle of taking time out of an already
overloaded schedule, not just to work out, but the travel time
too

4. EMBARRASSMENT FACTOR: The worry that everyone else on the
floor will be either muscle-men or toned, tanned gym-bunnies
who’d react with either disgust or derision to any
less-than-perfect newbie with the audacity to profane their
hallowed halls

Now, I could answer almost all of these objections (except for
No. 2 - even I can accept that if the money genuinely won’t
stretch, it just won’t stretch) with the suggestion that you
just need to choose the right gym (both location and
clientele-wise) for you, and follow basic gym etiquette (like
always keeping a towel between you and the equipment).

There may, of course, be other reasons I haven’t covered as
well. If you like the idea of working out in a gym, but can’t
(for whatever reason), please contact me, and I’ll try to come
up with a solution for you. However, that’s not what this
article’s about. And the good news is, we don’t actually need to
find solutions in the first place! Why? Because you really don’t
*need* to go to a gym to get - or keep - fit.

Contrary to advertising image claims, gyms *don’t* have a
monopoly on people’s ability to move; and that’s all exercise
really is. Movement and activity is what’s important to our
health, not when and where we do it. We just need to make sure
we get enough of it in

Current ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) guidelines
suggest that, in order to simply be healthy, you need to move
aerobically for 40-60 minutes (not necessarily all at once), 3-5
times each week. If your goal is to lose weight, not just
maintain your health, then this needs to happen no less than 5
times per week (although, if you’ve been inactive for some time,
you may well need to build up gently to this level!) On top of
this, research shows the need to include regular resistance
training to help strengthen bones (especially in women), and to
help offset (or even reverse) the damage caused by aging.

It sounds like a tall order, doesn’t it? Even with all the
equipment of a gym available, it can take a little practice for
newcomers to create routines that give them all the benefits of
the strength and aerobic activities without eating into too much
of their valuable time. It can be even harder to manage outside
of a gym environment.

With a little planning, however, it is possible to get the
activity you need to meet these guidelines without having to
sign up for a gym, and Part 2 of this series, we’ll look at how
you can do this.

Figure Out Bad Credit Cash Advance Interest Rates

Filed under: Emptor Infos — admin @ 8:42 pm

A frequently affirmed recrimination by critics of the payday fast cash advance business spotlights the rate of interest p.a. usually charged for short term payday loans which might amass to twohundred percent.

Annual percentage rate or “APR” is just a widely accepted metrics to nail down the amount of interest a borrower would have to as carried forward to one full year. The annual percentage rate (APR) serves us with a viable basis to properly gauge which financial tool has a higher vs. a lower expenditure to the applicant, including supplemental expenses that might be required. To be sure, the annual lending rate has proven to be a versatile tool applicable to financing bridging a period of a minimum of twelve months .Be that as it may, relating to two weeks investments the p.a. rates are unquestionably much less useful.

Instead, I liken payday cash advances to hailing a taxi home from the train station. It may set you back by forty dollars to get home in this manner. Of course, forty dollars may be a lot of money to have to pay for merely getting home nevertheless plenty of people will do it because it is accommodating and it reconciles a specific demand. Now we all know that we could rent a car for the whole day for only forty dollars including as many miles as we need to.

Let’s assume we do that- rent a car and drive some 400 miles during this one day we’ve rented it. Now the backers of APR will probably state that we must annualize this quote to produce a sensible correlation… So we’ll take the price we’re paying for our taxi ride (to wit: $2 per mile multiplied by 400 miles) the result being $800. The “annualized” equal of the car rental approach via our taxi hire renders $40:$800. Now, our critics should realize that car hire of ours would definitely not have been our best option, even considering how much more expensive the annual percentage rate was in this case.

And exactly the same applies to short term payday advances. Because after all short term payday advance loans are two week loans, they’re not annual loan arrangements. The extravagant annualized borrowing rate doesn’t solve anything seeing that this particular kind of loan doesn’t stretch across a full year. The borrowing fee will be close to 15-25% for the loan. A personal cash advance is a high-priced contingency option and should not be taken sans appraising all reasonable alternate possibilities.

Alright, they can be tremendously helpful in a quandary. However, they are not intended in lieu of mid or long term liquidity solutions. For a deeper view about getting a payday advance see here.

How NHL and NHLPA Raise Money For Cancer Reserach

Filed under: Sports + Movement — admin @ 1:12 pm

There’s a difference between a fight and a fight, both in hockey and in real life.

The NHL and the NHLPA have joined forces and founded the Hockey Fights Cancer organization and they have been able to raise more than $6.5 millions to cancer research organizations.

Cancer develops when cells begin to grow out of control and although there are many kinds of cancer, they all have in common that they start because of the growth of abnormal cells.

Even though the numbers of cancer cases expect to double in next 50 years, the cancer death rates are declining thanks to fundraising and research.

Hopefully the Hockey Fights Cancer organization can contribute to the even more to the declining.

In the National Hockey League all team captains join the fight against cancer during games played between January 9-11 2004.

Every captain wear a special team jersey featuring a Hockey Fights Cancer patch to underscore their pledge to fight cancer.

After the games, each captain signs his autograph on the game-worn jersey and it is donated to the Hockey Fights Cancer On-Line Charity Auction, as a force for good.

The auction have many different items you can bid on and at the same time you support the cancer research.

Without research even more people would have lost their life to this common disease.

Hockey Fights Cancer is a force for good.
