The Girl In The Window

Filed under: Entertainment Tips — admin @ 3:42 pm

She was as Irish as “Patty’s Pig”, yet her olive skin glowed
with evidence that she had the blood of the Spanish
Conquistador’s. Her eyes sparkled as she sat by her window and I
wondered who this vision of an Angel could be. I wanted to say
something, but she was three stories up. When she stood to look
at me my heart throbbed wildly with excitement. Her cut off
shorts showcased a beautiful pair of legs.

“How could I only be living two blocks away from her and never
have noticed her before,?” I wondered to myself.

But then sadness crept into my heart when I remembered that I
was on Grandma’s block and I did everything to avoid walking on
her block since she had passed away a few years ago, because I
missed her and was so pained when ever I walked on the street
were she once lived.

Then I remebered that I was on that street because my Mom had
asked me to pick up something at the store that day and I had to
pass by there to get to that store. So I continued on to the
store and never gave the girl in the window another thought
again.

Time passed and I started to feel very lonely soon after my
high school sweet heart went to California to become a
professional figure skater. A lot of girls liked me but I wasn’t
very happy dating them because none of them could fill the void
of Maureen’s amazing intellectual capacity.

Determined to search the world for my sould mate I joined the
Navy. I met every type of woman that inhabited planet earth.
Some were beautiful, some were very bright, but alas, none of
them qualified to be my soulmate. Soon after leaving the Navy, I
settled down to a mundane life again and very ordinary dating
that while being okay, always seemed to lack that special
ingredient.

But often times I wondered if there really ever could be a
recipe for a soul mate. Was I just a hopeless romantic that was
setting a goal that was just forever out of reach. Then I would
wonder how I would even know if I found a soul mate.

I thought, “Will a bell go off in my head or something.”

But as time passed and I dated many beautiful women the empty
feeling deep down inside me remained. No matter what I did, I
was incomplete. I was desperate to feel whole, but wholeness
still eluded me. I even turned to online dating sites to see if
what I was looking for was out there somewhere.

Then one day I went into a rant on an online dating site
because they didn’t have a box to check that said spiritual but
not religious and it disturbed me deeply to think that people on
that site might get the idea that I’m not spiritual just because
I don’t follow any one religion with lock stop authority.

To my surprise I got a trememdous amount of letters in response
to my religious tirade and having a photographic memory I
stumbled upon one of the letters that contained the profile
picture of that girl in the window that had lived two blocks
away from where I once lived. I made no mention of that too her.
I even teased her a bit and told her I thought she was Italian.

I kind of liked her and we exchanged a few messages that at
first were all about religion and nothing else. Then after a
while she mentioned that she was a writer and she had read some
of the things that I had written. As weeks marched on I
complained to her that I was having trouble with my studies for
a ten hour test I have to take soon for a certification. And
then she wrote that she said a prayer that I would pass the test.

And then all of a sudden it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had
taveled all the way around the world to find my soul mate, but
all that time, she was only living two blocks away from me.

How To Avoid Plasma TV Burn-In

Filed under: Entertainment Tips — admin @ 7:52 pm

If you’re familiar with the technology behind plasma
televisions, you know that the gas contained in each individual
pixel receives a charge from a set of electrodes and produces
ultraviolet light photons. These light particles hit a phosphor
coating on the pixel’s walls. If the same picture remains on the
screen long enough the phosphors will age prematurely and they
will produce a less intense light and color. The phosphor’s
continuous light will also burn the screen itself, leaving a
ghost of an image. This burning of the screen, and the residual
image it creates, is called burn-in. Older CRT monitors, as well
as ATM machines, are prone to burn-in. This was the reason
behind the invention of screen savers; having a randomly
shifting image displayed whenever the picture was constant for a
certain period of time helps prevent burn-in.

Burn-in occurs in 2 steps: premature phosphor aging and screen
searing. A still image will create an unchanging electrical
current in each plasma pixel. The resulting continuous flow of
photons forces the television’s phosphors to release the same
hue of light and this, when maintained for a long enough period
of time, will damage the phosphors’ ability to produce this
color light. They will become conditioned, and will never stop
producing a weak shade of that same color light, even when no
charge is being sent through the pixel. This affects other
images that require a change in the pixel’s color. Screen
searing is the dim, ghost-like image that literally gets burned
into the glass of your screen. During a still image, the screen
is bombarded with a specific spectrum of light from the
phosphors. Since it’s given no time to rest, the screen develops
a shadowy copy of the image which was frozen on the screen. We
most often see this at the ATM, when remnants of the main menu
remain on the screen throughout your transaction.

Now that you have an idea what burn-in is, you should know some
ways to prevent it from occurring. The root cause of burn-in is
a static image. Most newer model plasma televisions have added
functions to automatically prevent burn-in. However, owners of
older model plasma televisions should be aware of the danger of
burn-in and should follow a few simply tips to extend the life
of their television. You can avoid static images by turning off
your plasma television when you’re not watching it. Also, you
should steer clear of pausing a movie or a video game for an
extended period of time and leaving the television on.

Burn-in is no longer a serious concern with newer plasma
televisions thanks to a technology called pixel orbiter. The
pixel orbiter subtly shifts static pictures to continuously keep
the plasma screen’s phosphors working. By never resting, there
is little chance of burn-in. Creating more work for the display
may seem like a poor decision with regard to the lifespan of the
unit, but keeping the phosphors fresh and changing actually
helps the plasma screen last longer.

Craps 101 what you need to know about

Filed under: Entertainment Tips — admin @ 11:08 am

Alternatively called as ‘Hazard’, craps has been here since centuries. Now the game has been brought to the visitor’s PC. Being rated as one with the most odds, craps has been a popular bet among gamers. The game is full of tricks and one needs to come up to a great experience level to actually win at the game. The basic rules of the craps is that the roll of the set of dice that results in a combines 2, 3 or 12 will loose the game for you. A 7 or 11 is a game winner and thus the gamers are seen loud around the table. The bet is placed on the table with different numbers and chip combinations. The dice must bounce back from the wall of the table is another basic rule of the game.

Craps has been a popular game and the people are eager to learn the game. The best possible way to learn it is to stand at the table with an expert and see him do the job. But there are a lot of casinos and websites that give paid or free craps lessons. Being a dice game the chances of winning are evenly distributed. However, there are researches going on how the shooter can maximize the desired result by way of trick throwing. This is though not encouraged too much by the casinos. But throwing is not the only way to win a hand at the craps but the betting strategies are also of equal importance to the players.

There have been many allegations regarding the tempering of the dice and the way it is thrown. But that cannot be ruled out, as the “shooter” (as the dice thrower is also called) will always come prepared to roll to his advantage. But the most accepted way to play craps is to have a combined strategy of throwing and betting. The winners believe that both work hand in hand and they cannot be successful independent of each other. This is one of the reasons why one needs to be playing the game in and out to actually win at it.

A system of playing craps is that is becoming rampant these days is one of laying it at private parties. The street crap has actually found a new avatar at the private craps. The game through the casinos and private set ups is gaining a lot of popularity to the extent that the tournaments are being organized at the casinos and the top people try to loosen their wallet chains and bring out cash at the game of craps. As it is a dice game then the basic pretext about winning it remains the same. That is one need to throw it too well to win at the table.

Many game channels have also given the game of craps footage in their airtime. Thus the essentially gambling event is now becoming a gaming event. The popularity of the game is growing and the followers are taking more and more chances at the casinos. Those who cannot afford to go to the live action are using the Internet and the television to gain the pleasure, tricks and money from the game of craps.

What Genre Is Machiavelli Hangman?

Filed under: Entertainment Tips — admin @ 6:04 pm

How can anybody categorize Machiavelli Hangman into a single genre? There are those films that you watch and you immediately can tell that they will be thrown into the same box as Pulp Fiction or Memento or Usual Suspects. Others will fall into the quiet road-trip flicks like Almost Famous, Thelma and Louise, Stand by Me. Then, there are the big Hollywood flicks like War of the Worlds, Jurassic Park, Batman Begins, Superman Returns.

Before seeing the film, I had the strong sense that Machiavelli Hangman was going to be an exact replica of Pulp Fiction because all the articles referred to it as a Quentin Tarantino-esque picture. They couldn’t have been further from the truth. Originally, I thought that the filmmakers would attempt at impersonating the director of Reservoir Dogs like so many have before (a prime example was the awful Go). Usually, it either is Tarantino dialogue or it’s crap and knowing for a fact that Tarantino had nothing to do with Machiavelli Hangman (http://www.hangmanmovie.com), I went in automatically thinking it was going to be crap.

Which brings us back to what we were just discussing about how there are some films that you can’t categorize. The Raiders of the Lost Arch (beside the other Indiana Jones installments) was one of those films because it was not just an action-adventure film. It had a great deal of comedy and at the same time some very dramatic elements infused into the storyline.

These days it seems that most films stick to their genre and they go with it without trying to give their stories any additional depth. After all, movies are like people and as human beings, we not all just sad, or all just happy.

Machiavelli Hangman blew me away in that it transcended every type of categorization and it became so human in its approach that it moved me beyond words. It was the best of those comedies like Some Like It Hot while being a great drama like Crash and still managing to feed the minds of those arthouse film lovers - it is up there with Mullholland Drive and Memento without losing its audience like the previous two did.

Shervin Youssefian (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1352346/), whom many have already started calling the next Alain Resnais or Jean-Luc Goddard, takes a single event and he stretches it over a period of two days and as an audience we get to see the subtle exchanges between the characters. While a film like Armageddon doesn’t leave you enough breathing space in between the thunder-fast editing, Machiavelli Hangman understands and uses the power of silence and music to convey secrets.

In the test-screening theatre, there were viewers between the ages of 14 and all the way to their late 70’s who were equally entranced into the film, their eyes glued to the silver screen. When a film lives in this middle ground and can achieve such a universal appeal without categorization, then it is the true work of a master filmmaker and it will surely stand the test of time.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Filed under: Entertainment Tips — admin @ 9:28 am

‘The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ had the potential to be
the best movie of the year. And yes, I sincerely mean that.
Really, look at all it had going for it: it’s based on a classic
book that has a cult following that could rival the ‘Lord of the
Rings’ trilogy. A very funny and talented cast that includes Tim
Freeman (BBC hit series ‘The Office’) as everyman Arthur Dent,
Sam Rockwell as the two headed, split brain, charming President
of the Galaxy Zaphod Beeblevrox, Alan Rickman as the voice of
the paranoid android Marvin who incidentally resembles an
oversized storm trooper and Mos Def as the quirky and lovable,
towel wielding alien and author of the guide, Ford Perfect.
Throw in the fact that Jim Henson’s Puppet Shop created all of
the aliens and creatures in the film so none of them end up
looking like bad CGI you should have a innovative, funny, and
ingenious movie on your hands….but that’s not what happened, not
quite anyway.

‘Hitchhiker’ ultimately gets bogged down in its own grandness.
There’s just too much stuff. There are too many aliens, too many
crazy sets, too many gadgets that have to be figured out and
just too much going on to really have time to digest it all. The
obvious meticulous care that was taken to bring this visually
stunning world to life happened at the expense of true character
and plot development.

We don’t get the opportunity to know more about Ford Perfect, or
why Zaphod has such a problem with Humma Kavula (John Malkovich)
or even why Humma Kavula wants the gun he sends Zaphod after. We
get very brief explanations as to why Zaphod has two heads and
how he managed to become president of the galaxy given his
questionable intelligence quotient. And the movie spends an
excessive amount of time explaining the Vogons a very
bureaucratic and disagreeable species of aliens that spend much
of the movie chasing the heroes but not enough screen time to
warrant all the details on who they are and what they are like.
I would have rather more explanation of the relationship between
Arthur and Ford or perhaps Arthur’s love interest Tricia (Zooey
Deschanel) and her relationship with Zaphod.

The movie’s biggest mistake is to assume that everyone who goes
to see this movie has read the book. Not only is that
presumptuous but it is disastrous to the continuity of the film
That sort of thinking is used as an excuse to not fill in the
many holes in the film’s story. The movie assumes. “They’ll
already know that,” so it doesn’t take the time to explain some
necessary details that are unfamiliar with ‘Hitchhiker.’ If you
have never read the book, or like myself haven’t read the book
in many, many moons you can end up confused or with more
questions then the movie even begins to answer. ‘Hitchhiker’
should stand on its own assuming that everyone who enters the
theatre is a blank slate and knows nothing of the book and
unfortunately it just doesn’t do that.

Also some of the actors’ performances are a bit questionable.
Rockwell’s performance as Zaphod is a bit campy and over the
top. Marvin, while funny in his roll as a highly intelligent yet
depressive and cynical android, becomes a bit repetitive and
boring. And the relationship between Arthur and Tricia seems
more like brother and sister then a romantic one. As a matter of
fact I can’t figure out why they like each other since they mix
about as well as oil and water, there is absolutely no chemistry
there.

Don’t get me wrong there is plenty to like about ‘Hitchhiker.’
The Vogons are hilarious, and there is the running bit with a
towel that provides more then a few chuckles. Bill Nighy (’Love
Actually’) as a designer planet architectural engineer is by far
the best role in the film. Part sci-fi, part comedy and part
love story, ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ isn’t a bad
way to spend your afternoon, even if it doesn’t quite live up to
the expectations set by Adams’ famed book.

The Magic Number

Filed under: Entertainment Tips — admin @ 8:21 pm

Having published a Newsletter for over 6 years we’ve learned a
few “tricks”. Probably the most important one is that people
want to get their information as quickly as possible. They are
not willing to wade through tomes of information, no matter how
well written, to get the ideas presented in the article.

If two identical newsletters are published, except one has a
rather long article, and the other has a condensed version of
the same article, there will be a disproportionate number of
“unsubscribes” from the first, and few, if any, from the second.
This has got to tell us all something.

The magic number, we have found, is 750 words or less.

Personally, I try to keep all the articles I write (and publish
in our Newsletters) under that magic number. If I let my fingers
get away from me, and have exceeded that magic number, I take a
long hard look at the article. Nine times out of ten, it can
either be shortened or made into two articles.

Most modern word processors have a word count feature. As you
are developing your article, if you check this on a regular
basis, you can achieve the desired size without having to go back
and rewrite it.

The second, and equally important “trick” is to word wrap at 65
characters per line. If you don’t, people may receive your
article in a format that is very difficult to read. Many mail
packages default to 65 characters per line, while others default
to a higher number.

If they receive an email that is wrapped at 80 characters, and
they are set for 65, they will get 65 characters on the first
line and 15 on the next. The entire article will be presented
like this - very distracting.

Almost all mail clients (readers) will display 65 characters per
line correctly. There is also less eye movement required using
the shorter line, making it easier to read. If this is the case,
why would anyone consider using a longer line.

If you do not have a sophisticated word processor, “Word Pad”
will serve the purpose. First - set your margins using “Page
Setup” under the “Files” Tab to .25 inches on the left and 1.5
inches on the right. Select the “Courier New (Western)” font with
a font size of 12. This will give you exactly 65 characters
per line. Other margins and font sizes will work, but be sure
you are getting the correct number of characters per line.

Now, you can estimate your word count. Figure an average of 9
words per line. There will be short lines and blank lines between
paragraphs. If your article is around 80 lines long or less,
you should be in the ballpark. This article, for example is 56
lines. The actual word count is 506 - close enough? You may
vary a bit on the actual count, but at least you’ll have an idea
of the length of the article and be close to that “magic number”.

Michael Jackson Raped 16 Year Old Eddie Reynoza

Filed under: Entertainment Tips — admin @ 4:45 pm

For Immediate Release
April 1, 2005; Los Angeles, California

Michael Jackson raped me when I was 16 years old” says Eddie Reynoza today. The young, innocent somewhat nave teen went to a music-video dance audition where Michael Jackson spotted him and turned Eddie into his latest victim.

It may be that Eddie Reynoza is the most worrisome news today for Michael Jackson’s chance at getting out of the criminal charges being brought against him. The court recently ruled that past allegations of sexual misconduct by MJ are fair game for the current trial. If Eddie were to testify it could demolish any hope for Jackson to be found not guilty.

Today Eddie is still an Actor and there is a change in the wind. The negative publicity he received in 1993 when he first came forward with his story has changed just like Spring follows Winter. He is now getting offers to act in movies again that range from co-starring to supporting roles.

There is also some talk of a Television movie of Eddie’s story. The rape by Michael Jackson would be the center-piece of the film but the story-line would include the attacks by the press and Eddie’s eventual success and redemption.
