Since some of these old tablecloths are really collectible items and can be quite expensive if purchased in an antique shop, finding one at local yard sale for mere pennies would be fantastic!

When it comes to the modern and contemporary style, most yard sales offer almost new items. If you check out the yard sales in the pricey area of your city or town, you can likely find some expensive items at cheap prices.

1. Secret Garden. This is a sweet sign to put on a garden gate. Or, hand paint the words onto a cleverly cut-out sign, nail it to a stake, and insert it into a flower pot on your patio.

Building a Room Addition can be one of the best investments you can make in your home. Developing a room addition plan should include both interior and exterior considerations. Lighting is often thought of as a necessity, which it is, but not often as part of the decor. This is more the case in residential settings. For years architects in commercial buildings have used lighting to compliment their designs. A good example of this melding of light and art is the Chrysler building in NYC. Most of the original lighting followed the Art Deco style of the building, with many of the fixtures custom made to fit the style.

In residential settings the most common use of decorative lighting fixtures is in the form of a dining room chandelier or some wall sconces. There are so many unique and beautiful light fixtures to choose from. Using a combination of unique light fixtures, varied patterns and controls, the lighting can in itself become a work of art. Even something like recessed cans with some planning and forethought can be placed in patterns that enhance the room from a decorative standpoint.

A very popular form of lighting used today in kitchens is pendant lighting. Placed over an island or peninsula, they can help define the space and add an element of art into the room. Taking a simple set of three pendants and altering the height of the fixtures, a new visual experience can easily be created. Too many lighting plans just conform to a given symmetrical pattern. Recessed lights placed in rows that are very commercial looking in nature. Instead of the lights placed in 3 rows of three you can have rows of three, two and three. This minor change now adds interest and is visually pleasing.

There is also the style of the fixtures themselves. The vast majority of recessed lights used are a basic baffle and bulb. There is so much more in the way of recessed lighting. There are trims for recessed lights that come in glass, different colors, wall washers, gimbal rings and so many more. It just takes a little thinking out of the box to take a different approach. Not to mislead anyone, these more unique designs cost more money. The truth is that most people are willing to pay a little more but they just aren’t made aware of all the options available.

Your bedroom reflects your personality just as much as your perfume does. Transforming your personal space into a romantic haven can be easy and affordable. A few simple changes will lend a sense of quiet comfort to a room that you’ll love to come back to!

I think we work hard and deserve and little space of serene tranquility. Don’t you? Close the door, leave the word outside and treat yourself!

Of course the first place to start is with your linens. No matter what sheets you like, from non iron percale to pure linen, they should be embroidered or trimmed with eyelet or a beautiful laced edging.

* Have a combination of layers on the bed. It is wonderful to be able to “shed a few petals” during the night as you get warmer. Many layers of light materials, from cotton sheets to down comforters (or two very thin down comforters with a cotton sheet in between) make a great combination.

* If you decide to have an all white or ivory color theme in your room, you might want to add some pastel colored accents such as curtains, pillows, lampshades, etc. The colors can be easily changed for a summer and winter look. Macrame lace curtains, with their rich texture will give your windows a most graceful and dramatic look, especially if they fall generously onto the floor.

* If you like to sew, you can create artful pillows with eyelet trimming. You could place one, two or even three rows of white or ivory eyelet on pastel sheets and pillows, or vice versa. Just remember to keep continuity in the color scheme of your room.
You could also cover pillows with any lace of your choice.

* Do not forget to pile pillows of different sizes and textures when you bed is made. They could all blend with the color of your bedspread or pick up on the color of your curtains, chairs, or rugs.

* How about a flowing, lacey, to-the-floor canopy bed cover? You can always tie back the canopy with some lovely tassels during the day. Macrame lace is a preferred choice in Europe because of its elegant, but flowing feel.

* Comforters are making a big comeback, and it’s easy to see why! They are light, warm, and give a room a cozy touch. They are traditionally filled with goose down but are now available with hypoallergenic synthetic fillings that are just as comfortable. Paired with freshly laundered linens, they will be ready to cuddle you for a well deserved rest. One word of advice: Do lock your door; kids love to jump on them!

* You could make a beautiful bed cover out of eyelet material, and just lay it flat over your solid colored sheets or comforter. If you need to make it wider, just make sure the seams will be on the edges of the bed. Some eyelet material can even be cut around the stitched design and requires no sewing (my favorite!). You could also cut out a runner for your dresser or night stand. Classic beauty is always in details!

* A sweep of sheer mosquito netting above your bed is all you need to give your room a sunny, tropical getaway feeling. (I’ll throw in the ocean as a bonus!)

* You can easily give your headboard a personal touch. Sew a slipcover (leaving a few inches of fabric on each side to form a flat flange and to add buttonholes and buttons if you’d like) and cover that fabric with lace or eyelet of your choice. You could then slip this cover over an existing headboard or a cut out piece of plywood.

malleable. We feel that we need to explain this due to the
cheaper cast iron products that are now are arriving in the
country, many of which are identical in size, shape and general
appearance. The difference is that cast iron will break.

The name Kirkpatrick Ltd has been synonymous with the production
of high quality malleable iron builders’s ironmongery for over
140 years. At Architectural Ironmongery Ltd we keep an extensive

Kirkpatrick’s malleable iron products are hand-made in the their
foundry in Walsall using greensand casting process. At this
stage the castings are hard and brittle and cannot be hammered,
so they are subjected to a heat treatment known as ‘annealing’.
In this process the castings are surrounded by an inert
haematite ore within iron drums and loaded into ovens of six to
eight tons capacity. The ovens take about two days to reach the
annealing temperatue of 980 C. The castings are then soaked at
this temperature for around 80 hours, after which they are
allowed to cool naturally. During this process the carbon
structure of the iron is changed. The resulting castings are no
longer hard and brittle, but soft and malleable.

After shot blasting and grinding to remove any rough edges the
castings are then assembled into finished or semi-finished
products. Following assembly a rust proofing finish may be
applied and a two-coat paint process is carried out, before
being passed for final inspection.
