How to Copy iPod Music to a New Computer

iPod users do not have much to sound off about. One exception is the lack of ability to move iPod music, video and other files from their iPod back to an additional desktop or laptop computer. Though the iPod has no problem transmitting videos and music from your computer to iPod using iTunes, the contrary is forbidden. Without iPod to PC Package, you won’t be able to download your iPod content to a new personal computer. This event sometimes happens when customers get a new personal computer or have to install the OS on their old computer. Apple prohibits this action because it does not want unauthorized sharing of bought files from the iTunes shop. Notwithstanding, there are a lot honest times that iPod owners want the power to move from iPod to personal computer. If a personal computer goes down and you need to install the system files, you might need iPod to PC copy software to get your worthful data. Differently, the clean installment of iTunes will wipe out your iPod, possibly costing you hundreds of dollars in lost music. Another common scenario customers necessitate these types of computer software is when they purchase a new PC and need to put their existing library of iPod files on the new machine. Over Again, if you do not install this type of application, you might potentially lose your worthful iPod files. You can find many companies that offer software applications to achieve this task. A speedy visit to freeware websites will reveal a handful of alternatives. You can also just type ‘iPod to machine transfer software’ into Google.

Marketing Your Business Online

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 6:52 pm

As a business you can’t afford to ignore the Internet Age; in 2002 there was an estimated 605 million people online around the entire globe, today this is estimated at over a billion users worldwide.

By using the Internet to market your business an entire world of potential customers are opened up for you, rather than just your local town, city, or country.

Some Facts:

• According to Forrester Research Inc approximately £2.5 billion worth of goods and services were sold online to US and European customers in 1998, more than double the 1997 figure.

• In the last six months more than a third of households have made a purchase online, this is double last year’s figures - Forrester anticipate this will reach 40% of households by 2009.

• In 2004 the top 400 retailers totalled online sales of around £25 billion, in the US this accounted for over 58% of all retail sales.

• Online sales grow by 25% each year.

• Over 40 million potential customers used the Internet last year seeking out local information; even if your focus is on the local market, you still need to be using the Internet to make sales.

Every day customer confidence in online shopping soars; this is relevant to you as a business whether you sell to consumers or business to business.

Having a website isn’t just about having a ‘presence’ on the Internet any longer - just so that you can show that you are a legitimate business, it’s about connecting with customers via the Internet, and making sales directly from your presence on the Internet, because believe it or not most of your potential customers are highly receptive to this.

If you don’t have a website yet and have been in business longer than six months, something is very wrong with your marketing strategy - and if you do have a website but aren’t using this as a portal to gain Internet custom in addition to your offline marketing, again, something is very wrong with your marketing strategy.
+
Some Reasons Why You Absolutely Need a Website

No boundaries: As already mentioned, the world is your oyster when you utilise the Internet as it is meant to be utilised; for most business there should be no geographical restrictions for your customer base.

Speed: Time sensitive materials can be released instantly, no need to wait for the layout designer, printing firm, and then post to deliver the latest incentives or news to your customer base.

Convenience: Customers can loose (or bin) your business card and brochures, they can’t ‘loose’ your website, which gives them ready access to your contact information should they wish to work with you/buy from you again.

In addition they can find out information about your services and/or products at a time that is convenient for them, rather than being tied to your business hours which may not suit them.

Getting a website, ensuring it is well designed and practical for making sales is just half of your slog unfortunately; your next step is ensuring it is correctly marketed so that potential buyers can actually find it using a search engine search.

The most popular method of finding goods and services is via a search engine - therefore once your website is designed and launched you’ll need to pay attention to search engine optimisation to ensure that potential customers can actually find you. This is just one way of marketing your website, albeit one of the most important.

What does it take to be a webmaster?

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 6:18 pm

Being a webmaster isn’t the easiest job out there. It might seem
to be a dream job for people that have a normal nine to five
job, but they could not be more wrong. They might think you have
it easy if they see you staying home a lot while they have to
get up every morning to see their boss. But for you as a
webmaster it really never ends, the job is always on your mind!

You continually have make sure your website(s) are doing what
they are supposed to do and are generating you an income instead
of losing you a lot of money. There are so many things to think
about in the business of being a webmaster when you start out,
that sometimes it isn’t even funny anymore. A few examples are:

* Find good hosting for your sites

* Doing Research into “what is a good market for me to build a
site for”

* You will have to create the Web site(s) or have it created.

* Making sure you know more about “Search Engine Optimization”
(SEO)

* Find affiliates and other programs that might generate
revenue from your site(s)

* Try to find link partners to increase your popularity and
promote your Web site(s)

* Setup Pay Per Click campaigns and do loads of re-search on
advertisement like that

* Read through loads of scams that want to sell you things you
don’t need!

* Try to get as much exclusive fresh content as possible

And this is only the tip of the iceberg, every day you will run
into new ideas or things to explore. Its not a job for people
that are easily frightened by working really hard and also
working those long hours alone behind their screen. If you won’t
work that hard and don’t commit loads of time to developing
yourself and staying up to date in this business, you won’t last
and your site(s) wont make it either.

On the other hand, if you do hang in there, and you keep growing
and growing, then its almost impossible not to succeed in your
mission. The rewards are extremely high if you make it because
most successful webmasters make a lot of money. There are lots
of things to worry/think about but in the end it will all be
worth it and you will be running with the best.

Niche Hosting

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 4:57 am

There is story of David and Goliath where Goliath would come and
challenge everybody - “is there anyone amongst you who would dare to fight against me?” Who would dare to fight against him? He was a giant, there was nothing one could do to humble him.

David saw the situation in a different manner. Whatever he threw at
Goliath it was sure to hit him. In the end we all know that David
did win. The internet is also huge.

Here’s another story from the Indian Epic Mahabharat where once
Dronacharya takes the Pandavas to the forest to test their skills in
archery. He hung a model of a bird on a branch and asked each of them,
one by one, to take aim at the bird and tell him what they saw. He
first called Yudhishtar, the eldest of the 5 brothers. Yudhishtar
saw the entire cosmos of which the earth was a part, then a tree which
was a part of the earth, and finally a bird hung on the branch of the
tree. Dronacharya asked him to sit down. One of the brothers, Arjun,
could see only the eye of the bird, and nothing but the eye. He shot
the bird right in the eye cause he could see nothing but his target.
While the internet is huge and global, when it comes to marketing the
same
old rule apply - The customer is the
king
. He is an individual and has his needs well defined. The
internet maybe the Goliath, but each customer is the bird’s eye.
The challenge for the webhost is thus in finding the bird’s eye.
Webhost
need to create plans which suit the customer’s needs rather than just
focusing on things like price, uptime, reliability, support and so on
which are all important. At the same time all decent webhosts today can
offer similar plans , prices, guarantees and support.

A few years back we did some research in the selling aspect of the
hosting
industry. Our first reaction was that the cheapest host would do well.
Or it would be even better if the cheapest host offered the best
features and the maximum bandwidth and diskspace. Finally, we concluded
that the largest host would be the cheapest host with the maximum
bandwidth and diskspace, with the greatest support and this host would
have ads all over the place. This may actually work out for many, but
the Return of Investment (ROI) may take more than a life-time.

The webhosting industry comprises mostly of SMEs. For them huge
investments in marketing may not be the best solution. Yet, there are
many webhost who have grown from a reseller hosting system to a few
thousand servers within no time. And interestingly none of the hosts we
studied were actually selling cheap. They all focused on the right
target markets. They create a niche market for themselves.

One webhost focussed only on resellers and called it private label reseller programs.
They gave out more diskspace and bandwidth and charged a higher value.
Their benefits - lesser customers, higher cash turnover and lesser
support requests as the resellers looked after their own customers.
Another webhost focussed on
webmasters
only. Webmasters generally have more than one site.
Hosting is not their prime business and they want an affordable
solution. Also, as most webmasters are tech savvy what they needed more
than regular support is a community where they can interact with
various other webmasters. Needless to say that these hosting companies
did grow fast.

It did not take long for the clones to come and soon such plans became
a standard in the industry. Webhosts are again facing the same
challenge on howto effectively market. One approach webhosts can take
is to focus on certain services of
hosting only
. Such as email
only hosting.
This would be
useful for people for whom email is very critical. They may prefer to
have the emails on another server which is exclusively for emails only.
So even their main site goes down, they’ll still receive their mails.
Another good example could be backup
hosting
only. Here the webhost would backup the entire data of a
website on regular intervals.

Webhost can also focus on certain
languages and software which are very
popular
. Not many hosts offer Java Servlets, Postgresql, Zope,
etc.. Zope only hosting for example
would surely lead all the Zope developers to use as well as recommend
the Zope community a webhost who specializes in Zope hosting.

With broadband getting cheaper by the day, webhosts can now truly
expect the market of application
hosting
to get popular. There is a whole new market of large and
small corporate who would not mind keeping their data is secure
networks. All they need to do is log into their servers and access
their data from anywhere in the world. They would be looking for
applications such as Compiere
or a groupware where they can access, share and store the data on the
net. Corporate would not mind paying a premium for such services. The
webhosts have to assure security and reliability in such cases.

Adding value to what is being
offered to the customer would always interest the customer is taking
services from the webhost. A webhost can offer hosting with certain software pre configured for use.

Take a look at Postnuke for example. The latest version of postnuke has
had over 39,000 downloads in just about 40 days. All the customer needs
to do is change the logo of the site to his logo and start writing.
hostnuke has taken the
initiative and offering postnuke hosting. Their plans are not cheap.
But because they specialize in postnuke hosting, most customers of
postnuke would prefer to be with go with hostnuke.

One can offer
hosting with a postnuke, gallery and phpBB forum all bundled into one.
This gives the customer more time to focus on what he wants to do with
his site rather than spend time on how to implement a CMS system or
picture gallery.

Sites like hotscripts.com have a
section which lists the popular software.
Some good ones to offer with hosting are ikonboard, eZpublish, phpShop,
Zope, A-Cart etc. After identifying the right software one can
create scripts to automate the installation procedure and thus reduce
the time to execute new orders.

And finally, one need not go and put in a lot of money for advertising
with search engines or webhosting directories. All the webhost needs to
do is advertise on the selected software’s home page and be present on
their forums/mailing lists.

The 3 most common complaints against web site hosts

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 1:18 pm

The 3 most common complaints against web site hosts are pretty
commonplace these days.

There has been a rapidly rising demand for web hosting services
and many of the part-time basis-basement operations have found
it virtually impossible to meet the new quality and service
demands of web sites. Many who had previously gotten away with
shoddy services and a technical service department that was just
an answering machine where all callers including clients with
emergency situations left their messages.

You may be unfortunate enough to still be using a hosting
service like this one. Our advice is that it is too costly in
today’s net environment.

Here are the 3 most common complaints against hosts;

a)Poor Technical Support This complaint is by far the one that
is mostly heard. Many hosting companies outsource their
technical support and the result is often total chaos. Clients
get answering machines or voice mail systems when they call.
Sometimes you can even get non-English speaking technicians.

Other times trouble tickets go unanswered for days without
resolution.

b)Reliability Reliability is another major complaint with sites
being down to many times or being too slow at certain times. All
this impacts negatively on the performance and revenue potential
of the site.

c)Delays after signing up When people sign up for web sites,
they are often anxious to go ahead as quickly as possible.
Nobody wants delays. But with many web hosts, after signing up
it takes days for the account to be ready.

These are all things to look out for when getting a web host.

Antioxidants Naturally Found in Foods

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 7:01 am

Why do we need to eat foods that are found to be naturally high
in antioxidants? What are antioxidants? Which foods do we need
to eat, in order to naturally fight free radicals?

Scientists have found that the body forms unstable oxygen
molecules, called free radicals; every cell produces tens of
thousands of them each day. A free radical is basically an atom
with an odd number of electrons in its outer ring. Since
electrons have a very strong tendency to exist in a paired
rather than an unpaired state, free radicals indiscriminately
pick up electrons from other atoms, which in turn convert those
other atoms into secondary free radicals, thus setting up a
chain reaction, which can cause substantial biological damage.
This, in short, is bad. There are also many kinds of free
radicals, which we are exposed to everyday, for example,
pollution, radiation, cigarette smoke and herbicides.

Antioxidants are thought to neutralise and stabilise these free
radicals.

So, which antioxidants are naturally found in which foods?

We have:

Vitamin E: a fat-soluble vitamin found in vegetable oils, nuts,
green leafy vegetables, and fortified cereals. Some of the foods
containing the highest amounts of vitamin E are wheat germ oil,
almonds, sunflower seeds, sunflower oil, hazelnuts, peanuts,
spinach, broccoli, kiwi and mango. Vitamin E is an antioxidant
vitamin involved in the metabolism of all cells. It protects
vitamin A and essential fatty acids from oxidation in the body
cells and prevents breakdown of body tissues.

Vitamin C: Ascorbic acid is a water-soluble vitamin present in
citrus fruits and juices, cabbage, green peppers, broccoli,
spinach, tomato, kale, guava, cantaloupe, kiwi, papaya, and
strawberries. It is important in forming collagen, a protein
that gives structure to bones, cartilage, muscle, and blood
vessels. Vitamin C also aids in the absorption of iron, and
helps maintain capillaries, bones, and teeth. Beta-carotene:
Beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A. It is present in
liver, egg yolk, milk, butter, spinach, carrots, squash,
broccoli, yams, tomato, cantaloupe, peaches, and grains. Studies
have been done on beta-carotene’s effectiveness for heart
disease, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease,
fibromyalgia, male infertility, and psoriasis.

Coenzyme Q10: CoQ10 boosts energy, enhances the immune system,
and acts as an antioxidant. A growing body of research suggests
that coenzyme Q10 may help prevent or treat some of the
following conditions: heart disease, high blood pressure, high
cholesterol, diabetes, and others. Primary dietary sources of
CoQ10 include oily fish, organ meats such as liver, spinach,
broccoli, peanuts, wheat germ and whole grains.

Selenium: Selenium is a trace mineral that is essential to good
health but required only in small amounts. It helps synthesize
antibodies; helps synthesize co-enzyme Q10and helps transport
ions across cell membranes. The best sources of selenium are
Brazil nuts, wheat germ, molasses, sunflower seeds, whole wheat
bread and dairy foods.

You should note that there are many other antioxidants naturally
found in foods. You should also note that the best way to take
antioxidants is naturally, through fresh, vibrant food. One more
thing; sometimes less is more. Some of these antioxidants are
only needed in small amounts, so check into whether you need to
take more or not, before you start overdosing on antioxidants!

Revealing the Firefox Secret Used by Top Web Developers and Power-Browsers

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 6:15 pm

Profiles are one of the best kept secrets around regarding Mozilla Firefox (my browser of choice).

In the role of web site designer, I find it useful to have Firefox set up with various Extensions for helping test compliance, keep track of Google Adsense earnings, checking PageRank and Alexa rating, etc…

However, when I am simply surfing the internet, I don’t want to be weighed down by all these tools, cluttering up my status and toolbars. I like a slick, simple browser that looks good and works quickly.

Fortunately, I am able to have both of these scenarios in Firefox, through the wonder of Profiles.

How do Firefox Profiles work?

Firefox allows multiple users to set up the browser to suit their own specific needs and tastes, from Themes and Extensions to Bookmarks and Home Page.
Upon startup of Firefox, you are able to choose which user profile you would like to use.
So, you can now have a profile for your web development needs, one for your personal surfing, and even one for the kids (allowing you to increase Firefox’s security measures).
Each profile is independent of the others, so it’s like having a new installation for each user.

How do I activate Firefox Profiles?

1. Firstly, find the Firefox shortcut on your desktop (or create one from the .exe file).

2. Right-click it, and select properties.

3. Lastly, in the Target box, add ‘ -p’ without the apostrophes to the end of the target line (so that it reads something like ‘C:Program FilesMozillaFirefoxfirefox.exe -p’), and click OK.

Now when you start Firefox through this shortcut you will be prompted with the Profiles Manager box (as long as you do not already have an instance of Firefox open). It’s all self-explanatory from thereon.

For faster start-up, I advise that you keep two shortcuts on your desktop - one to load up Firefox as normal, and this new one to execute only when you want to change profile.

So You Want To Have A Website

Filed under: Lots Of Web Resources — admin @ 3:47 pm

So you want to have a website. You have gone on to the internet and surfed but you have no idea what developing a website involves.

You are not alone

The majority of my clients know they need a website but they feel overwhelmed and intimidated by internet technology and why not? Internet technology is continually evolving and changing. What is true this month may not be true next month.

Where do I start?

Domain Name

The first thing you need to know is what a domain name is and how to register it. Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular websites. For example:

http://www.artistadesign.com

The whole address you see above is the URL of my business but the domain name is ArtistaDesign.com. The only way to register and start using a domain name is to use the services of a domain name registrar.

The registrar you choose will determine the cost for registering a domain name. You can expect to pay a yearly fee. The website I use is http://www.godaddy.com they have competitive prices and it is easy to transfer your domain name to any server - web hosting service you choose to host your site.

In picking your domain name make sure it is the name of your business or something related to your business. Once you have a domain name registered it is exclusively yours nobody else can have it unless you don’t renew it.

Now What?

Website Development

Once you have registered your domain name it is time to seriously think about building your website. You have two choices: outsource it or do it yourself.

Let me tell you my bias. For nearly all businesses and non-profits I recommend outsourcing the initial web design. Many small businesses attempt to design their own website or to hire someone merely on the basis of cost. Both of these options carry potential consequences.

Having a poorly performing ineffective website is worse than not having one at all. A true professional knows what is needed to make a website a success. There are many types of websites and each business will have a different goal in mind. A professional website developer can help you understand what your needs are and put you on the path to success.

My website is done so what is next?

Hosting

Web hosting is the service that makes a website available to others on the internet. Simply put, you are renting a place to hold your website. Once your website is built your domain name is transferred to your web hosting provider.

Your web designer will upload all the files that are developed for your website to a server (host). The server gives you a specific amount of disc space and allows your website to be accessed by internet users. Web hosting is billed by the month or by the year.

It is very important to find a reliable hosting company for your website you want to be up 24/7 with out any complications. The level of web hosting also depends on the complexity of your website. Your web designer will be able to point you in the right direction.

There are many good hosting companies one of my favorites is http://www.canaca.com they are reliable and give you a good range of choices and options best of all they are reasonably priced.

I think I am ready!

Not yet, it is important to set up professional e-mail addresses. If you have picked a good internet hosting company you should be able to have your e-mails set up - or set them up yourself. It is totally unprofessional for a business to use a free internet e-mail such as AOL or yahoo. You want your business to look legitimate and credibility is of utmost important especially when your business is internet based.

Example:My email is pamela@artistdesign.com that is much more impressive than pamela@yahoo.com . When ever I get an email from a business that has a generic address I get the impression they are not very internet savvy.

Ready Set Go!

Marketing

This is where the action takes place. If you just build your website and park it in cyberspace what do you think will happen? NOTHING…

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard, “I have a website but it hasn’t helped my business at all!” Well what would happen if you rented a store filled it with beautiful object for people to buy and just set there? NOTHING…

The same is true for the internet. You must market your website. Traditional marketing is great - add internet marketing and you have a recipe for great success. There is much more to marketing your site than putting the proper key words and sending your site to search engines.

Make sure your URL is on every piece of marketing material you have IE: business cards, ads, banners, flyers, brochures etc.

Have a free online newsletter filled with informative information.

Send out press releases announcing your business.

Have special offers on your website.

There are many things you can do to market your internet business. This is just the tip of the ice berg. One website that will give you invaluable information on marketing your business is http://www.kathleengage.com and best of all it is free!

Did you know…

On-lines sales were up 45% in 2004 and research shows that eCommerce totals in 2005 are likely to surpass USD 133 billion.

Businesses of today need an internet presence to show they are legitimate - tomorrow businesses will need internet presence to survive.

With a website the world is your oyster and the future is yours.
